Cabinet of Jazz
The podcast where jazz rules the world, presented by Marcus Brigstocke
In 1964, pioneering Jazz musician Dizzy Gillespie ran for President of the United States. His manifesto promised a cabinet packed with Jazz legends. Duke Ellington as Secretary of State, Miles Davis as Director of the CIA, Charles Mingus as Secretary of Peace: it would have been a government with serious groove.
Comedian Marcus Brickstocke invites fellow jazz enthusiasts in music, comedy and broadcasting to nominate their own Cabinet of Jazz, with guests including writer & broadcaster Jay Rayner, actor Clarke Peters, comedians Stewart Lee and Isy Suttie, and musicians YolanDa Brown and Zara McFarlane.
Each episode’s honorary ‘President’ must justify their appointments under the scrutiny of Brickstocke’s razor wit and Jazz geekery. Whether already anoraks or new to the genre, listeners are bound to learn something new about Jazz history. We hope they’ll soon be writing their own manifestos…
Cabinet of Jazz was recorded in front of a live audience at PizzaExpress Live Holborn, and originally broadcast on Jazz FM, supported by the Audio Content Fund.
