Lockdown

Lockdown at Loftus

2020 forced us all to think creatively about the way that we work and connect. With remote working becoming a normality, we found ways to be resourceful, consistently meet our client’s needs and tell the stories that mattered.

We continued to produce impactful audio such as ‘Lessons from Lockdown’ in collaboration with Times Radio and the Audio Content Fund. The 20 part series featured stories about separation, community and creativity including Chris Packham on the sounds that helped him through the pandemic and Ian Rankin’s Jekyll and Hyde lockdown. We explored isolation with sheep farmer Jenny Campbell and heard parents revel in the gift of lockdown babies.

We advised widely on tech, enabling arts institutions to adapt cancelled in-person events into podcasts, and helped actors set up home studios, empowering them to continue to make a living.

Our photographers’ creative response to the pandemic was to come up with solutions for socially distanced shoots for our client, BBC. They captured musicians stranded on their doorsteps and starved of audiences, radio presenters keeping the nation going from their makeshift home studios and created beautiful photo editorials such as ‘This is My Story’ (BBC Radio 1Xtra) whereby four British black writers – Candice Braithwaite, Bernadine Evaristo, Caleb Azumah Nelson and Benjamin Zephania – shared in their familiar settings how both lockdown and the killing of George Floyd had affected their lives and creativity.

"We are all kind of feeling we are in this together, so it has brought broadcaster and listener rather closer together."

''I genuinely feel that for many Black creators, also for many Black authors, writers, content creators... there is going to be a moment of great harvest.''
